Something big...

I decided to do something big....like write a blog. I've had this blog for a long time, but haven't written anything. Mostly because I figured no one would read it...but also because I didn't have much to say anyway. Now I do. In fact, I have something big to say. I am a runner. I haven't always been, but I am now. Running has brought so much to my life and has made me a much better version of myself. In fact, it has become a big part of my identity. Right now, I can't run, and it drives me crazy. About 5 days ago, I had surgery to repair a broken bone in my left foot....an injury caused by my running addiction! The Dr. says everything went well and that I will be running again in 3 months (God willing..)!

Still waiting for that BIG THING I am supposed to be saying? Sorry. Here it is. I am going to use this blog to chronicle my recovery and journey back to running, culminating in the saga (I'm anticipating it will be pretty dramatic and will earn the title 'saga') of training for the biggest running challenge of my short running 'career' - I have a goal to run a 50 mile trail race next year - 2013. I have learned from personal experience that sharing my goals with other people creates a huge sense of responsibility...it makes me feel like I would be letting someone down if I were to fail. So, I need some help to accomplish this goal...and I'm turning to you. I know that I can run 50 miles....it's something I have wanted to do for a long time. But right now, that goal feels so lofty and far away. I'm excited to get back to running and finally achieve that goal.

I hope this blog will be a good way for me to keep track of my progress and stay motivated on what will be an exciting part of life! So here begins the journey!

Today I really did nothing. It is my last day off of work from my surgery. I was pretty proud of myself for going 6 hours instead of 4 between doses of painkillers and for taking a bath with no help, ha ha. Also, I was able to put my 'walking boot' on and hobble around the kitchen for a little bit. Goal for tomorrow: go to the store!
